The Alliance for Water Efficiency Seeks Applicants for the Position of President and CEO

Published: September 15, 2020

With the impending retirement of founding President and CEO Mary Ann Dickinson, the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Water Efficiency, a stakeholder-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is seeking applicants for the position of President and CEO to lead staff, board and stakeholders toward a world where communities, businesses, and ecosystems have the water they need to thrive.

Founded in 2006, the Alliance for Water Efficiency’s (AWE) mission is to promote the efficient and sustainable use of water. AWE serves as a North American advocate for water-efficient products and programs, and provides information and assistance on water conservation efforts.

AWE is governed by a 17-person Board of Directors that represents an international network that brings together water suppliers, corporations, small businesses, government agencies, nonprofits, associations, and academic institutions—all leaders, thinkers, and pioneers in water efficiency.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President and CEO has primary responsibility for implementing set strategic and policy directives, and operations. The President and CEO will be responsible for executing the organization’s mission as set out in its strategic plan; managing staff and contractors; managing board relations, organizational planning and leadership, and program development and management. Full responsibilities, duties and qualifications for the position are listed on the AWE website.

A successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to AWE’s mission and will have proven experience in leading organizations or agencies, working with a board or similar governance body, and communicating effectively in a variety of media and venues. The position requires frequent, independent travel to locations around the country and occasional international travel.

The Board of Directors will negotiate an employment contract with the successful applicant. Compensation will be based upon the candidate’s experience and qualifications in line with the organization’s budget. Paid vacation, health care and other benefits will be included in a final compensation package.

AWE’s headquarters is in Chicago, Illinois; however, candidates from other locations are welcome to apply, as local residency is not required for this position.
