Water/Energy Nexus + Climate Change
Extreme temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, more intense droughts, and rising sea levels all threaten our water resources and infrastructure. Adapting to these changes is crucial for water providers to maintain a reliable supply. Water providers also have a role in mitigating climate change. At home, energy is needed to heat water for daily tasks. At the utility level, energy powers water pumping, conveyance, and treatment. Likewise, the energy sector depends on large quantities of water for cooling. How can water and energy providers collaborate to adapt to and mitigate climate impacts? Conservation and efficiency strategies can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and extend water supplies by minimizing use at both the residential and utility levels.
