In 2024, AWE partnered with the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance and H.W. Hoffman & Associates, LLC to identify innovations and technological advancements in water conservation best management practices (BMPs) within the State of Michigan's business and industry (B&I) water use sectors.

Conducted on behalf of the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), Office of the Great Lakes (OGL), findings are intended to inform the state's Water Use Program and Water Conservation and Efficiency Program. The work advances progress toward achieving Michigan’s water conservation and efficiency goals and objectives established under the Great Lakes Compact and will contribute toward achieving goals under the MI Healthy Climate Plan.

The reports include:

  • An introduction to the State of Michigan's voluntary water conservation BMP program
  • Summary and takeaways from stakeholder engagement with Michigan’s non-B&I and B&I water use sectors
  • Detailed review of water efficiency and conservation BMPs, innovations, and trends
  • Considerations and opportunities for future action
