The AMI Engagement Benchmarking Tool is designed to provide water agencies with insight into common customer engagement and AMI practices. Users may fill out the following form with their agency’s information. Within approximately 2 business days of completing the form, users will receive an Excel document detailing their responses benchmarked against other agencies that have used the tool.

For each question, answers are denoted as Very Uncommon, Uncommon, Average, Common, and Very Common, depending on the percent of participants that selected that answer.

All results are anonymous. If you would like your agency to be acknowledged, you may indicate so in the form.

This tool provides water practitioners an opportunity to identify opportunities for improvement and celebrate successes. The tool is designed for agencies with full or partial AMI deployment. If your agency does not have AMI but you wish to see a report of common engagement practices, reach out to research@a4we.org to request a report.

The AMI Engagement Benchmarking Tool was inspired by AWE’s 2025 AMI Engagement Benchmarking Survey. You can check out the Utility Approaches to AMI-Based Customer Engagement: Results from a Multi-Utility Survey to read the results from the 2025 survey.
