A Note of Gratitude from Kelly
Published: May 15, 2026

After three and a half wonderful years on the AWE team, I’m writing to share that I’ll be transitioning out of my role at the Alliance.
In January, we welcomed our first child, Hudson, into our family. During my parental leave, and through thoughtful reflection, I realized I’m not ready to leave this season of being home with him full time.
Prior to joining AWE, I had never worked in water (and had no idea this is where all the best people are hiding). It’s been a privilege to learn from such a thoughtful and passionate community.

Being a part of AWE has been a buoy of hope amidst these divisive and tenuous times. It’s been so refreshing to work alongside professionals who show up each day ready to roll up their sleeves, think creatively, and partner collaboratively to protect our natural resources. I’ve loved learning from you and seeing the ways you bring communities big and small, red and blue, urban and rural together to ensure we have the water we need for generations to come.
Your advocacy for water efficiency has impacted me personally as well, making me a more thoughtful steward and far more intentional about my everyday water use.
I’m so proud to have been part of this team and grateful for the opportunity to support AWE’s mission — from launching the Symposium and modernizing our digital presence, to helping strengthen relationships in Congress to support critical programs like WaterSense and ENERGY STAR.
Thank you for welcoming me so warmly into this community. I’m grateful for your partnership, your generosity, your endless water puns, and your unwavering commitment to the common good.
If we’re not already connected, I’d love to stay in touch on LinkedIn and look forward to our paths crossing in the future.
With gratitude,
Kelly Connolly Kern
Director of Public Affairs (through May 2026)
